Our girl "Honey" (shown here on the left with two of her littermates) was a lovely female Siberian Husky bred and co-owned with Joni Barnhardt of Khovaki Siberians. This litter was sired by Ch. Wintersweet's Woodsmoke, out of Ch. Innisfree's Moonlight Sinner. They had the most beautiful eyes and expressions, and could really move out in the show ring. "Woody", Honey's male littermate (shown her in the middle) excelled on the trail when running in harness. He and Honey were pointed towards their championships, and "Sprocket", the lovely girl on the right in this photo was an AKC champion who excelled in the ring and in harness with her owners/breeders Joni and Harold Barnhardt.
Honey came to live with at Meja as an adult, after her original owner who purchased her as a pup got out of dogs and returned her to Joni. Even though shown sparingly, she accumulated nine points, and is shown in the photo below taking Best of Opposite Sex at James River Kennel Club. I remember advertising this photo as "a show dog with legs" because at the time, many female Siberian Huskies in the show ring were very small. Honey's breeder runs her dogs and believes in breeding for an all-purpose dog, and Khovaki dogs have excelled on pleasure teams as well as in the show ring.
We can fluff up our show dogs but as you can see by the judge's raincoat, we were showing in the rain that day, and Honey had just blown her coat, so what you see is exactly what Honey was--a girl with lovely angles and structure. Although her breeder only has a litter every few years, she is someone we have known for a very long time, and is an ethical breeder that we would highly recommend to anyone looking for a Siberian Husky as a pet or show dog. You can reach Joni through clicking here on her website: Khovaki Siberians.
Thank you Joni, for the years we had with Honey. She will always be greatly missed.
Note re Khovaki, from Melanie: Several of the dogs we have shown and loved through the years have had pedigrees that went back to Khovaki's foundation dogs, including Martin (Ch. Wintersweet's Synama On Credit), Trophy, (Ch. Royal Star Apostrophe Ess), Dakota (Ch. Synama's Dakota) and Dave (Khovaki's Nod from the Gods). I personally knew Joni's foundation dogs Smoke (Ch. Wintersweet's Woodsmoke) and her foundation female, Kori (Ch. Innisfree's Moonlight Sinner).
When I was married to Jim Babb, we had the honor of showing Honey's sire, "Smoke" occasionally for Joni, what fun! He was not only incredibly beautiful, but also was a gentleman that was easy to groom and show. I still remember the fun of the win pictured on Smoke's page on the Khovaki website, where Jim Babb is shown showing him (I take credit for the grooming though!) I think that particular photo showcases Smoke's beauty, click on Ch. Wintersweet's Woodsmoke to see Smoke's pedigree and photos on the Khovaki site, as well as links to other Khovaki dogs that go back to him.
