One of the most beautiful dogs that has ever lived at Meja was the handsome "Martin" (Champion Wintersweet Synama on Credit).
Martin was bred by and co-owned by Patty Powell and Betty Mitchell (Synama and Wintersweet Siberians). When Martin was around 2 years old, Melanie took a trip down to Patty's house to look at a female dog she wanted to place, but as soon as Melanie got out of the car, she spotted Martin and exclaimed "Who is that gorgeous black and white dog?"
Patty had shown Martin as a puppy and he already had a few championship points under his belt, but they had been waiting on him to grow up while she and Betty were busy showing some of their dogs who were already mature. Melanie was so thrilled when Patty & Betty decided Martin could come home with her, and they were all very proud when he finished his championship totally owner-handled. He is shown below, winning despite not being totally in full coat (if you are a non-Siberian person reading this, Siberians totally blow all their undercoat once or twice a year)--under respected breeder-judge Jean Fournier, with Melanie handling:
Melanie will never forget the phone call in 1998 when Martin's co-owners and breeders had taken him to the Siberian Husky Club of America's National Specialty. Betty and Patty, and Melanie too before the phone call was over, were all squealing and laughing with delight as they spoke about his Award of Merit win (at a very large specialty with an entry of over 930 dogs).
Martin could still turn heads with his handsome looks even in his golden years, as you can see in this photo taken when he was over 12 years old:
He was shown only a few times after he finished his championship, but in addition to his Award of Merit win at the National Specialty, Martin is also shown below taking Best of Breed with Jim Rathburn, on his way to a Group 3.

Martin was bred only a few times but we are proud to say that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren are still winning today. Ch. Royal Star Apostrophe Ess (Trophy, bred by Marie & Tom Kraus of Royal Star Siberians) was co-owned by Melanie when she took Reserve Winners at the Siberian Husky Club National Specialty in Chicago, and she finished her championship with a regional specialty win. Trophy is also gone now, but her legacy lives on in several beautiful Siberians owned or co-owned by Royal Star Siberians.
Martin...you were very special to us...thank you Patty & Betty (of Synama and Wintersweet) for sharing him with Meja. Visit their website to view other photos of Martin, including his Award of Merit win, as well as his pedigree at http://www.synama-wintersweet.com/martin.asp.
