Have a Siberian or another indpendent breed? What about a dog that just isn't quite connecting with you the way your heart desires?

Don't you just love this photo of Jennifer Pierce's lovely Siberian, Kristari's Cheeky Girl? Cheeky obviously is well trained, or Jennifer could not have gotten her to be still on this rock so that she could capture this gorgeous shot.
Unfortunately, compliance to being asked to "stay" is not something that comes naturally to a sled dog! Breed characteristics often affect a dog's behavior. We don't expect Chow Chows and Akitas to be naturally friendly with strangers if they have not been well-socialized from a young age. We should not expect retrievers of any variety to refrain from carrying things around in their mouth. We don't expect English Bulldogs to be able to fly around an agility ring, so we probably aren't going to choose agility as the way we build relationship with our Bulldog.
Most of us are able to figure out these simple things, particularly if we have a purebred dog purchased from a reputable breeder, like Cheeky, pictured above. But things can become more complicated if we are working with a mixed breed dog, or a purebred dog who came from an animal shelter, whose background may be unknown. In order to develop a close relationship wtih our dogs, and really "figure them out", sometimes we have to think outside of the box. I have actually found this to be true sometimes even with a purebred show dog, especially if we purchased them as an adult, so we did not have the privilege of "knowing" the dog from puppyhood. The story of what was originally missing in my bond with "Martin" (Ch. Wintersweet's Synama On Credit) is described in our newest ebook, Dogs Have Love Languages (too). Soon this ebook will be available for purchase on my sister website, Knowing Dogs, for the same affordable price as our other 3 ebooks, 9.97 and with just a couple of clicks you can receive an easy-to-read PDF of the booklet in your inbox!
But for my friends and blog readers, i wanted to go ahead and let you know about the book in advance and give you a discount if you would honor me with a purchase. I am very proud of this little handbook about the Love Language revelation that I had years ago. For this week only, you can purchase it for only $8.00 by paypaling this amount ($8.00) to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
