Merry Christmas!

Was looking back and trying to choose a favorite dog related Christmas photo and found this one of our Kate, when she was a wee pup in 2002. Many thanks to Janet Gray of Graystone Photography for permission to use this photo, and for her patience with Kate years ago to get this perfect shot for us. Kate is now 11, still with us, but not in the best of health.

All of my family and I wish all of the Knowing Dogs' readers a lovely Christmas and a very Happy New Year.  Here we are, left to right ,my beloved husband Rick, myself (Melanie) and my rather tall son Eric Schlaginhaufen, III.   Actually this was several years ago, no real tree up this year so couldn't snap a recent shot for you so this one will have to do . But we are still much the same except Eric is an inch or two taller now and has a beard to go with that head full of hair! Rick, well, he might have a tiny bit "less" hair, and mine is a tad lighter!

We are struggling a bit to make this year seem like a "real" Christmas, because Eric just had surgery and we cannot hop in the car and take off to the Carolinas like we usually do, to see our families. We will miss being with everyone at Christmas.  But still we are very blessed, as Eric's surgery went "perfectly" and we are happy to all three be together and hoping that next year will be a better one for health and happiness. We are also happy that our older pets are still with us as well. Even our Suzie Bean, our Dachshund adopted from a shelter years ago when she was already a senior, is still hanging on, waiting to see what will be in her stocking in the morning! We try to explain to her the real meaning of Christmas but she still doesn't quite get it.  However, WE know that she is another special gift from God, so even as we thank God for the most precious gift of all, His son, whom we celebrate during this time of year, we are also thankful for our family, our friends and our pets. It is the "living gifts" that mean the most of all, isn't it?  Not the material things, but the love of family, friends and precious pets, and of course the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We don't really know what day you were born, but we still wish to take time to wish you a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!!!

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for A Happy New Year from the Schlaginhaufen Family, to all of you who are kind enough to read and contribute to this blog. We appreciate you and are sending you our best wishes, across the miles.  Merry, Merry Christmas!!

Rick, Melanie and Eric III
